Windsurfing
The unprecedented wind and water conditions of Bonaire attract windsurfers and kitesurfers from all over the world on a regular basis.
The Lac Bay Lagoon has been used for countless windsurfing championships due to the perfect natural conditions: the lagoon offers more than two kilometers of warm shallow water and constant winds of 24 knots on average.
The Dunkerbeck Pro Center welcomes windsurfers of any experience level, every day, from 7:30 am starting February 2018. It will be offering classes, clinics, and windsurfing and foiling tours around exciting spots in Bonaire.
Guests will be able to rent Goya, Starboard, and Simmer Style windsurfing, foiling and SUP equipment.
The Dunkerbeck Pro Center is hosted by the Sorobon Beach Resort & Wellness, which has been organizing the Sorobon Masters, a local windsurfing competition for freestyle, slalom, and speed, as well as the Défi Wind Caribbean, in collaboration with Bjorn and Philippe.
The resort will act as the accommodation service for windsurfers and will offer a unique price on equipment rentals for its guests. There will be a 20 percent surcharge for outside visitors.
Bjorn Dunkerbeck is a windsurfing legend. The half-Danish, half-Dutch athlete has already won 42 world titles in windsurfing.
He turned professional when he hit 7, and since then he broke speed records in the nautical mile, 500 meters open ocean, and 250-meter divisions. Dunkerbeck is also the founder of the GPS Speed Challenge.
Philippe Bru is a professional windsurfer and foiler for over 40 years and the chairman of the Philippe Bru Organization (PBO).
He is also known for running the annual Défi Wind and Défi Kite, one of the biggest race-based windsurfing and kitesurfing events on the planet. Bru has also been a windsurfing instructor for 20 years.
