Where the Sails Meet: an Italian windsurfing documentary with five talented sailors title=

Italian windsurfing films are rare, but the country is truly blessed with a long coastline and multiple wind patterns. Nevertheless, the movie focuses on Sant’Antioco, an island located in southwestern Sardinia.

Giovanni Passani, Nicolò Tagliafico, Gianluca Tamantini, Rossel Bertoldo, and Gigi Madeddu explore the spots at any hour of the day. You’ll notice that 40-knot plus winds are more frequent than you’d imagine.

“When you live in such a special place with your friends, then you know you need very few priorities in your life. You just need to windsurf and friends with you to be happy. Since I had that, it’s been clear to me that this is the only place which suits me,” explains Giovanni Passani, an Italian and European Freestyle windsurfing champion.

“Living in a completely different environment, I had to totally change my lifestyle. At first, I felt like I was missing something. Not because I did not feel well here, as I had everything I needed and more, but because when you’re 17, it’s hard to leave your family.”

Directed by Lorenzo Squarcia, “Where the Sails Meet” will take you on a slow-paced journey around the lives of these Italian chargers. Windsurfing changed them, but they are changing the sport, too.

“It’s hard to explain what impact windsurf has on my mind. Sometimes when I’m at sea, I stop and look around and feel totally relaxed,” adds Nicolò Tagliafico, who is also a European Freestyle champion.

All five windsurfers are in love with Sant’Antioco. It was inevitable.
