The event organized by Guinness World Record holder Francisco Lufinha challenged 17 teams to compete in a multidiscipline water sports contest.
Sixty-two athletes battled for glory in a 12-hour kitesurfing, sailing, windsurfing and stand up paddleboarding marathon. In the end, Miguel Graça, Jorge Guimarães, Maro Silva, and Pedro Moura raised the trophy.
“Our team is very happy and proud taking the first place at the Water Kings, especially being this the first edition. The weather conditions throughout the 12 hours of the race were extremely demanding for all teams, due to the extreme heat and light winds,” explained Graça, Core Kiteboarding’s team leader.
The shifty weather conditions during the event led to a strategic management of the sports chosen in each period and also stressed out the need of a real team work to endure all the hours on the water.
“We did an excellent job, reading well the weather forecasts and wind charts. We also had the advantage of doing a lot of sailing and regattas in the Lagos Bay, so we managed well the transitions between windsurfing, SUP and kitesurfing, identifying well the spots and timings with more wind pressure and gusts,” concluded Miguel Graça.
