The young Maui resident, who is also a keen tennis player, decided to hit Kanaha Beach Park to ride the local winds with a few friends.
Nels went sailing with his son Tom, Scott Drexler and his brother Greg, and Jimmie Hepp. The truth is we don’t know who had the most fun. Was it Glesne or the other boys?
Glesne sat on a modified catamaran, grabbed the kite bar, sailed away, and caught a few inside waves. The 100-year-old sports enthusiast loved the experience with the Boardriding Maui Cloud kite.
Nels Gerhard Glesne was born in 1916 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He is a World War II veteran and retired forester. He lives in Maui since 2013. Nels has three daughters, one son, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
