The “virtual” circuit aims to develop the flourishing market of kite parks that are opening all around the world.
The KPL has been put up by slider-and-kicker riders. They believe obstacles are “the next logical step towards taking kiteboarding to a wider board sports audience.” Some of the athletes involved in the new organization are also enthusiastic wakeboarders and snowboarders but, ultimately, they all ride kites.
“As of now we do not operate any events; we only compile results from existing events. All contests that count towards a final ranking are voted on by the union representatives,” says Manuela Jungo, one of the founders of the Kite Park League.
“By providing a world ranking, our goal is to promote the achievements of the riders involved, and to create better media value for their sponsors. It is our goal in the future to be fully sanctioned someday, and we are working hard to make this a reality.”
The first ever Kite Park League champion will be the best rider competing in five major contests: Blue Palawan International Kiteboard Open, Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational, Hood River Slider Jam, Rail Masters, and Rhosneigr Park Jam.
