Crathern, who is known for his dangerous kite jumps over the Brighton and Worthing Piers, has been severely hurt when his kite stalled while going for a massive kite loop in the event’s semifinal.
The 31-year-old kiteboarder free fell nearly 20 meters (65 feet) and crashed into the water. Apparently, Lewis Crathern didn’t suffer any brain damage, broken bones or internal injuries, but he had problems breathing.
“I couldn’t help but think of one of my best mates missing out on the final and ending up in the hospital,” expressed Aaron Hadlow, winner of the Red Bull King of the Air 2016.
“At one point I was ready to walk away from my heat, but knowing Lew would be happy to see me on top when he comes around I managed to come out the blocks flying in the final, bringing his style and energy he had throughout the day with me.”
Sandra Crathern, Lewis’ mother, has already traveled to South Africa. She believes her son will come out of his induced coma soon.
