The windsurfing event runs from October 28th through November 2nd at the Guy Harvey Outpost, Islander Resort, and will feature 100 sailors from 12 countries including Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, USA, Canada, China, Mexico and the United Kingdom.
The six-day competition will feature three divisions – Men, Women, and Youth – and promises, once again, the largest, most balanced, equal and one-design contest ever experienced, especially in wind ranges from 5 to 20 knots.
The Kona windsurfing class showcases four sail sizes and various weight classes. The stars are back in Florida for the third time. Bjorn Holm (2013 and 2008 world champion), Adam Holm (2012 world champion), Andrea Holm (2013 and 2012 women’s world champion), and Rob Evans (1997 world ice and snow sailing champion) have confirmed their presence in the event.
“When you host it at the Guy Harvey Islander in the Florida Keys, it adds the perfect vacation scenario to the competitive challenge, drawing many who just want to be at the big event,” notes Michael Fox, event director.
“With over a dozen nations from four continents represented, only the Olympics can boast a stronger draw. With over 100 competitors in this premier worldwide racing event, this is the largest one-design windsurfing regatta in the world.”
Kona is an official class by World Sailing since 2009, and there are over 3,000 board owners in the planet. In the Kona World Windsurfing Championships, windsurfers of any weight and age have an equal chance to win.
