Droneboarding: when drones are the power source

Meet the Aerones, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) ready to replace the wind as the ultimate alternative power source. And you don’t need kites either. The Aerones is a drone, but not a drone like those you find in tech and gadget stores.

The Aerones has the lifting force of 37 kilograms (81.5 pounds), and it can easily tow a kiteboarder, skateboarder, or snowboarder. It was designed and developed in Latvia.

“This is another possible use for a drone. Most likely it will gain popularity,” notes Ilmars Ozols, a member of the Latvian Association of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems.

“The company is currently looking for investors and partners to develop a special type of handlebar for this kind of sport. There has been a lot of interest from different extreme sports fans.”

The engineers behind Aerones want to develop heavy lifting multi-rotor drones for multiple purposes. Snow kiteboarding seemed a logical step, but the brand has also tested the equipment with large water bottles.

Will Aerones debut a new era in human transportation?
